Subject: Technology Watch: BTTB Disconnects ISPs : Bravo!
Justice is equal for all.
Law should apply to all equally.
The decision taken by BTTB is appreciatable. But I cant be happy as much I
should be.
Because:
1) I don't know whether BTTB will play same role with its Telephone bill
defaulters (including the unpaid bills of our honorable parliament members)
or not. I think that amount and overdue time is much more bigger than those
defaulter ISPs.
2) The decision of disconnection have been implemented very quickly. Its a
good example for all other government services. But to get a telephone
connection we can't find this speed even after paying speed money. We wait
for a long time, we pay speed money (!), we take recommendation from
ministers of local MPs etc and than we get a connection.
3) BTTB took this action based on the decision from Telecom Ministry. But we
all know that Bangladesh going to loose another opportunity to have fiber
optics connectivity due to the indecisiveness of same ministry.
Communication is most important for any country and it must be handled with
utmost care. The company who is dealing with international business
send/receive all kinds of informations by e-mail. Some company (like ours),
have to communicate with buyer continuously, cant endure even one hour
interruption (fortunately we are not with disconnected ISPs). I don't know
exactly how many company have to have to face big problem for this
disconnection.
Its Ok to disconnect when someone is defaulter. But since the service
related with public interest BTTB had to give a notice in the newspaper in
advance about the disconnection and business users could have time to manage
alternate way for their communication. This courtesey isnt unusual even in
our country. PDB, RAJUK other government agency publish those kinds of
public notice in the newpaper round the year. But BTTB didnt give any notice
in the newspaper.
So, I can't give my point to BTTB for this creditibility as some alochoks
do. Only sufferer knows the pain.
Peace for all,
